Thoughts from Exhaustion

Thoughts from Exhaustion

Hello Rebels, and welcome back to my life.

It’s very tempting to gloss over the fact that I haven’t made a video in several days, almost two weeks in fact, but I actually can’t do that because it’s actually the whole reason I’m making today’s video in the first place.

You see, I’ve been locked up here in my office trying to bang out—phrasing—the final draft of Darkfire, the third book in the Nightblade Epic, and when I say locked up, I kind of mean it.

I’ve been spending about sixteen hours a day in this office—not all of that time spent working on the book, but the rest of it spent on doing all the other things I need to do to keep myself and my family afloat so that I can finish the book without worrying about, you know, like, rent and stuff.

I’ve barely left the house at all except on short walks around my neighborhood and yeah, generally it’s been a very tiring, even exhausting experience…which is kind of usually the case when I’m close to finishing a book.

And then today John Green released a very good video—which, you know, he’s kind of known for—about the topic of exhaustion, and it kind of shed some light on something I’ve been experiencing for the last little bit here.

In his video, John Green talked about the fact that he often gets messages from nerdfighters who think he’s looking a little tired, even exhausted, and they tell him it’s okay to take a break if he needs to, and they won’t mind at all.

And John’s response in the video was that he doesn’t want to stop. Making vlogbrothers videos isn’t what makes him exhausted. Making vlogbrothers videos is actually something that refreshes and revitalizes him AFTER he’s become exhausted from doing a bunch of other stuff.

Rebels, when I heard John say those words, I realized that I’ve made one big, huge, terribad mistake. I’ve dropped YouTube videos from my schedule because I thought that I didn’t have the energy to make them, when in fact, like they are with John, they’re actually something that increases my energy level rather than decreasing it.

It’s not just the physical and creative act of making the video itself, but hearing from and speaking with you guys in the comments and on social media that puts a spark back in my step and keeps me going.

By dropping that from my daily routine because I was “too busy,” I’ve kind of been doing myself a disservice, and in fact I’ve made the last few weeks MORE stressful and MORE exhausting than they’ve really needed to be.

You might be surprised to hear this but I actually quite enjoy making videos for you all, and hearing your thoughts on the videos that I make. I’m not doing myself or you any favors by vanishing from existence for time periods lasting several days, even though I have a lot of work to do.

So while I’m reluctant to make promises, because we all know how they tend to work on this channel, I CAN say that I am NOT going to NOT make videos because I’m too tired to do so—because that has actually never been the case, even when…let’s face it, I’m pretty tired right now.

In other and related news, Darkfire is very close to being done. I’m doing final edits on it now and the release date is NEXT FRIDAY, July 24th.

Wow. That’s only ten days. That kinda freaks me out, actually.

I will put a link in the video description where you can go and pre-order it if you want to. OR, if you haven’t read the first two books in the series yet, I will put a link where you can pre-order ALL THREE of them as a boxed set for a pretty significant discount.

Though I feel obligated to mention that that boxed set comes out a week after Darkfire, so it will take you longer to actually, you know, get the book.

So once again I want to apologize for vanishing from the channel for so long, for mistakenly thinking it was a good idea for me to NOT be making YouTube videos every day, and I want to give a really big thank you to everyone who’s been tuning in for my VlogaNovel videos and keeping me company while I’ve been working on perfecting the manuscript. You guys are awesome.

Thank you so much for watching, Rebels. An extra special shoutout to my Patreon supporters who make all of my YouTube videos possible. I will be sending Darkfire out to my Inner Circle patrons and above very shortly, so if you want to be one of those totally awesome and incredibly attractive people, click the Patreon link in the description. I will see you tomorrow. Byyye.
