OH MY GOD IT’S COMING!!!

OH MY GOD IT’S COMING!!!

Good morning, Rebels, and welcome back to my life.

So I want to make a very important announcement about something happening next Friday, i.e. exactly one week from today.

Have I mentioned that I write books?

That’s a joke for OG rebels—i.e. ones who have been here about six months. You know, it’s hard to have “old school” fans when the entire lifespan of the school so far is just over a year.

No, but seriously, you know that I write books. Well, next Friday, the paperback version of my new book Mystic will go up for sale.

Mystic, by Garrett Robinson

I don’t have a physical copy of the book YET, but it’s going to look something like this. I have placed my order and should be able to show you the real thing some time early next week.

As per usual I will be offering autographed copies for the regular retail price, and if you like physical books, I certainly hope you’ll think about grabbing one.

And let me just go into that a little more for a moment. A lot of you know that I sell books directly but some of you might not know WHY.

Well, there’s two reasons. The first is that I love selling signed copies of books to people who want them—I love owning signed books, because it feels like a really personal connection with the author.

The second reason is a lot less charming and a bit more economical. Basically my books are printed on-demand and shipped via Amazon, and by default, Amazon takes care of all shipping and handling. That’s very convenient of them, but they take a larger percentage of the sale when they do that, which makes sense, I mean they’re providing a service.

But I also have the option to get books for the printing cost and then sell them directly myself, and when I do that I get a much larger portion of each sale, like three or four times as much as I get if Amazon sells them. Obviously as a small-time indie author that’s important to me. Now I’m not telling you this to guilt you into buying a paperback copy direct from me, but if it’s all the same to you…it would be pretty cool.

There’s also an added bonus in that if you buy the paperback, even directly through me, the sale still goes through Amazon, and that means you can download the Kindle version of the book for free. So if you enjoy owning physical books but generally prefer to read ebooks, this is still the best of both worlds.

But on Mystic I wanted to sweeten the deal even more, so I’m borrowing an idea from Sean Platt from the Self Publishing Podcast. Because, and I cannot stress this enough, the only reason I have a writing career at all is because I just do whatever Sean does, albeit ineptly.

Sean and his writing partner Johnny B. Truant wrote a book last year called Axis of Aaron which was one of my favorite books of the whole year, and they did this awesome thing for it that I actually participated in. Basically they created a whole “DVD Extras” package for the video, with extra video and audio and written content. And in the back of the book there was a link to a page on their site that gave you all these extras and goodies.

One of those goodies was a video of ME interviewing THEM about the book, which I was highly honored to do, but yeah, everything in there was just nummy goodness if you liked the book, which I really, really did.

So Mystic is going to have its own Goodies bag, with a link in the back of the book that will take you to all kinds of awesome goodness on my site!

I’m planning to do several videos talking about the origins of the Nightblade series and how I imagine the characters, plus what they’ve gone through in Mystic and a little hint of where it’s all headed.

And while those will be on this YouTube channel they will be unlisted, so the only way to get them is via the behind-the-scenes videos you will find at the link in the back of the book.

That’s also just because if, after hearing all of that, you still don’t want to read Mystic, then I don’t want to clutter up your subscription feed and my blog with a bunch of crap you don’t want to read.

So that’s all coming next Friday, and stay tuned for my videos next week as I get the first physical copy of Mystic in the mail and then get the much larger shipments of complete books, which I’ll be ordering over the weekend.

My signing hand and sharpie are all ready to go, and I’m super excited.

Also stay tuned next week because I’m going to start talking about the third book in the series, Darkfire, and what’s going on with that, what that title means, and how that book will be released, because it’s going to be a bit different from Mystic.

That’s all for today, Rebels, thank you for being here, and I hope you’re as excited for the new release as I am, although maybe not because I think my excitement levels are kind of unhealthy.

Thanks for watching, and I will see you Monday. Maybe. Byyye.

Awesome!

How does the matchbook program know we're entitled to the kindle version if we buy from you? Personally, I'm cool with getting the file via email, but I'd love to know if there's a way to automate it. I also sell print books myself, and I can get that setup, all the better.

Looking forward to friday!

@RolandDenzel Hey Roland! When I sell my books directly, I still do it through Amazon as an Amazon Seller (sellercentral.amazon.com). They have great order processing and offer worldwide shipping so I don't have to figure any of that stuff out myself. So since it's still BOUGHT through Amazon, Amazon still honors the Matchbook program—even though you didn't buy it through CREATESPACE through Amazon.

So if you want to take advantage of this for your own works, just offer your book direct sales through Amazon as an Amazon Seller. It's relatively simple to setup, although putting new products up is a bit complicated and a bit of a pain. But once you figure it out once, you know, it just gets easier and easier every time.

Makes sense. I feel like I'm dense, but you sell via Amazon, but ship from your personal stock, signed?
