October Sales and Strategies

So, the last royalty report came in on Friday. That means it’s time to review how things are going and adjust strategies accordingly.

First of all, here’s my graph of the last three months of sales, organized by store. I left out numbers (sorry, I’m still not comfortable giving that out):

Monthly Sales GraphSo, let’s address the most obvious thing first: KOBO IS FUCKING ROCKING IT. Prior to August, I had yet to see a single sale on Kobo. Then Realm Keepers happened, and all of a sudden people all around the world are downloading the SHIT out of it. I know I wouldn’t have been able to touch the international market without Kobo, and that’s really awesome.

I noticed last month that Kobo had surpassed Amazon, and I thought that was cool. But this is another level. They’re now more than double my Amazon royalties.

So that brings me to my first battle plan steps:

1. Analyze what countr(ies) is/are doing best for Kobo

2. Find out what attracts people from those areas

3. Do more of that

Now, let’s stop Amazon-bashing and acknowledge that Amazon IS still trending upward nicely. Amazon continues to perform well, and it’s definitely the best place for U.S. sales. Here’s Amazon vs. Kobo, U.S. only:

US Only

It is starting to slack off a little bit, however. I like my curves to be more exponential.

One reason for this is that throughout October and into the first weeks of November, I was working on this film shoot that took up almost all of my time. My promotional activities very nearly died out during that period. I need to increase those again and get in front of more eyes.

So I get my next battle plan steps:

4. Submit an ENT promo for Midrealm

5. Re-submit a BookBub promo for Midrealm

6. Autoschedule social media promo for RK

7. Do Goodreads giveaways for Midrealm and RK Episode 1

UPDATE: The giveaways have been set up. Want a print copy of Midrealm or Episode One? Enter the giveaway below. It’s free—all you have to do is say you want the book.

You should do a www.librarything.com member giveaway too. The best part about librarything is that you're giving out ebooks so you can give out 100 review copies and it won't cost you a dime. Congrats on rocking Kobo. Have you done anything special to kick ass?

That's what I've been trying to figure out! I don't know why Kobo has taken off, though I'm happy it has.
