GIVEAWAY! Darkfire is coming!

GIVEAWAY! Darkfire is coming!

Hello Rebel, and welcome back to my life.

Today’s video is like the first five books in the Nightblade Epic: it comes to you in four parts.

Okay, I think we can all acknowledge that that intro was terrible. But it was my first multi-part video intro, so cut me some slack.

Part one: Vloganovel. So for those who don’t already know, I live-stream the entire creation of my books over on another video website called Twitch—yes, believe it or not, other video websites exist.

On the live stream I literally do everything, from outlining to writing the first draft, to editing and even formatting the ebook and print editions.

It keeps me accountable because, if I’m not actually working on my book, viewers can SEE it, and that keeps me productive instead of, you know, checking Facebook.

But also, the people who hang out and watch live are just some of the best people and my favorite readers, and we have a really good time.

I’ve talked about Vloganovel a lot before, and you might already know about it, but I just wanted to mention it again in case you’re new and haven’t had the chance to check it out. There’s a link in the description.

Part two: film deals. One of the reasons I brought up Vloganovel today is that it’s been getting a lot of new viewers, which is great, and they’ve been asking a lot of questions that new viewers usually ask, which is fine.

One question they and a lot of people ask is whether I want to turn my books into movies or whether I’d ever take a film deal from a studio.

The answers to those questions are yes and, almost definitely not.

See, most authors WANT film deals, but they don’t actually know what that means. They think it would be cool to have a movie made of their book, just like most people think it would be cool to have written a book.

But most people who think it would be cool to have written a book don’t actually want to do the work to write one, and so it never happens, and authors are the same way. They’d love a movie of their book, but they have no idea what actually goes into that.

I on the other hand worked in the film industry for years, and I’ve actually made several films both above and below the line, and it’s specifically because of that that I’d almost certainly never accept a film deal from a studio.

Because those deals almost always mean you give the studio full creative control. That’s the case far, far more often than not. And that worked out really great for J.K. Rowling but not so much for Rick Riordan.

Part three: making a film. So all that being said, yeah, I’m gonna make a movie.

One of the big company goals for Legacy this year is to produce a film. We’re going to do it ourselves, with our own budget so that some producer can’t tell us, you know, we’re putting too many women or people of color in our fantasy movie.

It’s going to be a one-off short film, not a feature or anything. But I’ve already written the script, I’m revising it, and we want to get it produced this year.

It’s not going to feature Loren, or Ebon, but it WILL tie into the Underrealm books in a couple of ways I think you’re really going to enjoy.

Part four: other media. So the film is just one part of what we want to do this year. We also want to produce our first comic. And we want to do a live convention.

We want to do it ALL, but we want to know what YOU want to see most and how we can share what we’re doing with you.

I’ve written a very short survey, just a few questions, and stuck a link to it in the description below. I’d really appreciate it if you could take two minutes and fill it out.

Because I think if we do this right, the world of Underrealm is going to become a much more awesome, exciting and fully fleshed-out place for all of us. And getting your input is going to help us do that faster and better.

Part five: book giveaway! Next week I’m releasing the second edition of the book Darkfire. The new cover is amazing. The new edition is miles above the old one, and to celebrate, we’re doing a GIVEAWAAAY!

If you’re on the email list or in the Facebook group you already know about this, but THIS giveaway is exclusive to the YouTube channel. All you have to do is leave a comment below saying you want the book, and you’re entered to win.

Okay that’s it for today, and I gotta run to go get my next book published. Thank you for watching, Rebel. Check out another video from the channel or my Patreon right down there, and I will see you on Monday. Byyye!
