Contact me using the form below. Tell me everything about your book, including any information about how quickly you want to publish it. We’re going to be editing your book twice, so it will take some time. Knowing your ideal release date will help me plan how to use that time best.
I invoice 50% of my fee up front. Sorry, I know that’s almost a dirty thing to bring up here—but wouldn’t you rather know now, than be surprised later?
I’ll reply within 24 hours and set up a time to meet over Skype. First, we’ll plan for your cover (if you don’t already have one). You might have a freelance designer in mind, but if not I highly recommend 99Designs.com. We’ll go over your contest submission and make sure it has the best chance of getting you a great cover. Then, as the design runs, I’ll check in on it daily and make sure things are going according to plan.
You’ll send me your manuscript, and I’ll get cracking on the edit. The first edit is a DEVELOPMENTAL edit. I might not be able to restrain myself from correcting small typos as I go, but that’s really not what this edit is about. This is about your STORY. We will make sure your plot is tight, your themes are clear, and your characters are well-rounded.
Once you’ve made corrections based on my developmental edit, I will start my LINE AND COPY edit. This is the nitty-gritty—by the time we’re done, your language will sing and you’ll be free from annoying spelling and grammar errors that distract your readers.
The length of time this will take kind of depends on the length of your book—however, you can expect even a long book to be returned within a week for each editing pass. I do my editing in Word, taking advantage of its powerful “Track Changes” feature.
Once you get the manuscript back, you’ll need to go through my edits. Each one will be marked big and red for you so you can see them easily. You’ll approve or disapprove each one (asking me any questions you might have, of course), and then your book will be complete!
By this time your cover will be done, so I’ll start formatting. My turnaround time for formatting is always within 48 hours. When I’m done, you’ll get ebook files to publish your book on all platforms, as well as print PDFs for both hardcover and paperback. At this point I’ll send you the second half of my invoice as well. Don’t worry, there’s no rush—if you have corrections or tweaks, you tell me and I will get them done immediately.
Once the book is done and you’re ready to get publishing, we’ll work on your book blurb. If you’d like, you can try writing one which I’ll work on with you. Alternatively, I can write one and adjust it based on your feedback. Either way, you’ll end up with a book blurb that PUNCHES.
Finally, we’ll set up a time for a Skype call, and I’ll walk you through publishing your book online to every platform you want to publish on—including print.
We’ll start with a consultation over Skype, on your schedule. I need to know what marketing resources you already have versus what we’re going to build for you. We’ll construct your overall strategy, and then I’ll give you an exact battle plan of steps to take over the coming days. I will be chasing you up on these, too! I hope you’re ready to work your butt of to make your book sell.
We’ll check back in with each other once a week for four weeks to see how things are going and where we stand. During this time you’ll get every marketing tip and trick in the book—everything I’ve learned over the course of three years as a full-time self-published author. We’ll cover:
- Your email list (you DO have one, don’t you?) and the weekly emails you’ll send
- Advertising to email lists like BookBub and others
- Facebook advertising, using proven methods that get sales and signups
- Social media strategies that will allow your readers to engage
Finally, when your book is released, I’ll put you in front of my audience on my YouTube channel and my own email list. You and I invested a lot of time together on your book—it’s only right that I show my people what you’ve accomplished.
